This attribute highlights those individuals who are very aware of economic inequalities throughout the world. They believe there is better way that nurtures the development of a fairer, more diverse and more just society.
Cutting across all socio-economic groups, significantly more women than men see and empathise with the problems associated with worldwide poverty.
They envision a world where wealth is distributed more evenly and people feel more in control of their lives. They believe that most people who live in poorer countries and neighbourhoods need help, because the social systems and structures impede their ability to help themselves. They believe in personal and institutional intervention and not leaving people to fend for themselves. They would like everyone to be and feel free to live the life they choose, whilst having equal access to goods and services.
They believe concentrating wealth and power within a few countries and for a few individuals is just wrong and dysfunctional; that the structure of the global economy plays a major role in accelerating climate change, which in turn creates a clear threat to the survival of humanity.
Seeing poverty and environmental damage as two sides of a many-sided coin, they try to practice what they preach - from boycotting organisations are seen to be damaging the environment to supporting those organisations are helping to improve the lives of communities that are poorer and less privileged.
These aspects of their values system lead them to embrace a set of behaviours to facilitate learning more about how the world works and could work
better. As well as watching documentaries and listening to the news, they enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and different cultures,
because they like their views to be expanded, tested and refined; so, in turn, they are then able to challenge the symptoms of an unjust society
whenever possible.
